Camp Out!: The Ultimate Kids' Guide
By Lynn Brunelle
see relatedRoad Trip!
October was horribly rainy for us here in Chicagoland. November has been lovely - so far. Last weekend temps hit in the upper 60's so we decided on a road trip!
First thing we spot are the sandhill cranes migrating. They fly high up in the sky - you can usually hear them before you spot them. Noisy!
Keeping an eye on the bottom pole.
Because Dad is wading in the river!
Note to any potential suitors: My youngest daughter would like her engagement ring presenter to her in a clam shell. She thinks that would be very special.
I sat and read my new magazine.
The girls love to gather natural materials and build houses. At least they're not stick fighting anymore....
We drove to a nearby state park - to check out for future camping.
You have to drive through a ford to get into the campground.
We will definitely be camping here next year.

Something new for us here in Illinois. They weren't turned "on". Wondering what it could mean for us living in the city....
Looking forward to our next adventure - whatever it could be.

MaryJane's Stitching Room
By MaryJane Butters
see relatedIt's official!
I finally did it! Why did it take me so long? I don't know. I often put things off - drag my feet. Even things that make so much sense!
Announcing: FARMGIRL SISTERHOOD #790!
I really don't know why it's taken me so long to join. The merit badges are things that I want my girls to earn right alongside me.
Things like: knowing our food, going green, community service - things we're already doing. They're officially now known as
Farmerettes! They'll be earning certificates for their work now. They equally love MaryJane as much as I do - I have to pry
her books away from them if I want to read them.
As an extra special bonus for becoming a Sister this month, MaryJane is sending a copy of her stitching room book! The one
book I did not own yet! As I sat flipping through it quickly - as I had to run to pick up my girls. It hit me! Check the inside cover....
I remembered some Sisters on the forum mention a long time back that books that come from the farm are signed.
There it was! MaryJane's signature with a great big heart next to it! Like a big farm girl hug from the farm. (I know - I sound
like a school girl!)
I ran to pick up my girls, get them home and show them my our goodies. Then I show them the book. They reply: "oh, cool. We
don't have that one." Then I open it to show them the autograph. Now, if you know from my previous postings we like to go
to the bookstores to meet our favorite authors. My girls have met Mary Pope Osborne, Kathi Appelt, Blue Balliett and Erin Hunter.
We're like groupies for kids authors. They love meeting them, asking questions - getting that autograph.
Anyhow, when I opened the book and showed them the autograph - their mouths dropped open.
YOU....MET....MARYJANE???? Where was she? What did she say?????
I was bombarded with questions.
I had to stop them and explain that it came in the mail. I had to promise if she ever came
to Chicago that I would take them to meet her! Do I have funny kids or what?
I am very excited to get started on some badge work! Starting with my official Farmgirl badge. I need to think about how I want
to decorate it and where it will go.... of course my Farmerettes have all sorts of ideas!
I'm so pleased to be part of a wonderful community of like-minded women. With whom I can learn so much from!

Real Food: What to Eat and Why
By Nina Planck
see relatedAn update of sorts... how about bullet form?- I've been doing some sort of exercise daily since I last posted. Either walking, jogging or a DVD.
- My oldest daughter has started cooking here at home. We're calling it Adult Skills Classes.
- My youngest can now play "hot cross buns" on her recorder. Previously only noise came out of the purple flute like instrument. Now we hear music. Hope she learns a new song soon.
- Took our camper in to be winterized. I think camping is over for the year.

- I have stepped down from my commitment at Awana - amazing (not really) that others who haven't served before have stepped up. Sometimes we need to do that in order for others to step up and serve our Lord! (I'm still leading ladies Bible study)
- We may be taking the winter off from remodeling the bedrooms. (This is a good thing)
Going to take a whirl around your blogs and visit now.

EA Sports Active

So someone on Twitter mentioned this blog:

Mariana is giving away a EA Sports Active! I had never visited her blog before - but mention the EA Sports Active and I was IN!
Afterall I did write it on the note on fridge labeled "WHAT I WANT FOR MY BIRTHDAY AND/OR CHRISTMAS".
Since my birthday came and went (last week) and I did not open a Wii game - I thought this would be a perfect way to obtain one.
I did attempt a jogging routine last week as well. Friday, I was so proud of myself. I burst into a semi-jog a few times during my morning walk.
It felt incredible. I so want to start running again. My inner teen wants me to start running again. I forgot how fierce a competitor I am.
I actually felt that come out of me while I was jogging those few blocks.
Mariana is training to run a race to benefit colon cancer in memory of her Aunt who passed away recently. I've chosen Girls On The Run.
http://www.gotrchicago.org/program.html
They educate girls on healthy living - for a lifetime! Fits with our family lifestyle - especially right now.
I'm thinking bonding time with the girls.
Plus it's something that I can do with my girls.
The only thing that has me nervous is the race date: November 14th. 7 Weeks.
Can we do it?
I'm excited. I need to see what my girls think. I have a print out I found recently - "Couch to 5K". Think I'll read up on that later.
Pray for me (us - but really me) ladies! Visit Mariana's blog to read her story.
